Social networks bite Pat over outdoor dental appointment

TV soap actress Napapa Pat Tantrakul recently found herself at the centre of controversy on the social networks after posting her picture having a dental retainer moulded - in her front yard at home.

The dental service is advertised online, and the proprietor (not a dentist) makes house calls.

A woman claiming to be Pat's sister or cousin swiftly appeared in the online discussion offering a defence of sorts. She said she was the one who hired the service to have a retainer mould done, not Pat, but then the proprietor asked Pat to have a mould done too - hence the picture.

Enter the proprietor herself, posting a photo of her Commerce Ministry registration certificate to prove that her service was legal.

For her part, Pat just thought it was funny that she was singled out when the online shop is so well known and counts many celebrities - including Internet idols - among its customers. And anyway, she says, she didn't pay for the service, and she was just helping out a friend.

Now where have we heard that line before?

But the social networkers were unconvinced, insisting that dental work has to be done by professionals in dedicated clinics if only for the sake of hygiene. The Royal College of Thai Dentists Association concurs, and plans to look into these online shops and take legal action if necessary.

That old school of mine

Home fresh from their honeymoon at Italy, newlyweds Noon Siraphan Wattnajinda and Pipat "Top" Apirakthanakorn landed right in the muck.

Noon reports that honeymoons are great and, if she'd known that before, she would have got married a lot sooner. She does admit that quarrels require a whole new strategy when you're married. When they were still dating, a spat would just send them in opposite directions, but now they still have to sleep in the same bed at the end of the day no matter what happens.

Bickering aside, she adds, they do plan to have a baby sometime in the next couple years.

At the moment, though, they've got a much bigger quarrel to deal with. People have been gossiping that theChiang Mai University Engineering Alumni Association paid for the honeymoon. Not exactly, Noon says. They received Bt150,000 as a wedding gift, but a chunk of that was spent attending the World Expo in Milan so they could get some new ideas for their business, Eco Friendly.

Noon was grateful when senior members of he alma mater stepped forward to straighten things out.

Several of the alumni have explained that the money didn't come from the association but from a group of members who appreciate Noon's regular attendance at association activities. She's back at Chiang Mai U for all the reunions and many other events, they say. Most recently she participated in the annual Rub Nong Khuen Doi freshman trek from the school to the top of Doi Suthep. It's a big deal for all the alumni apparently - and apparently well worth a Bt150,000 wedding gift.
