Mission of Mercy and Dental Hygiene Month

During the month of October, Mission of Mercy is distributing hundreds of dental “goodie bags” to patients at its free mobile healthcare clinics as part of National Dental Hygiene Month.
The mobile health clinics provide free medical and dental care, as well as prescription medications, to those it serves. The bags, which are donated by United Concordia Dental and the Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle, contain a toothbrush, floss, dental health information and other dental care items. Both English and Spanish language versions are available, and children’s toothbrushes have also been donated.
“Mission of Mercy treats the overall health and wellness of patients, including dental services,” says David Liddle, Interim Executive Director of Mission of Mercy.
“On average, our dental patients receive five procedures per visit,” said Liddle. “Currently, we offer extractions, fillings and antibiotics when appropriate to treat oral infections,” he noted.
“Mission of Mercy has combined dental and medical services since 1995, after surveying our patients and learning that their biggest concern was dental care,” explained Liddle. “Even today, offering dental care and healthcare and services in one location is progressive,” he added.
Mission of Mercy’s mobile health clinic is fully staffed with experienced dental and medical professionals and administrative volunteers. The mobile clinics provide dental and medical services in Reisterstown, Taneytown, Frederick and Brunswick.
The Frederick Clinic is located at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave. Upcoming clinic dates are Nov. 9 and Nov. 23. All clinics are from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Clinic tours will be Nov. 23 from 9 – 10 a.m. and are open to the public. Call 301-682-5683 to RSVP.
