DES MOINES, Iowa -- Local veterans are taking advantage of free dental care Tuesday.
It's all part of the 2015 Healthy Mouth Movement, a program that helps veterans who are unable to find oral healthcare due to financial or access barriers.
Volunteers from Aspen Dental are parking their mouth-mobile at the Iowa State Capitol until 3:00 p.m. for the event.
Kevin Brown served actively for four and a half years and said he hadn't seen a dentist in more than six years, “We’re in a climate environment now where people are helping veterans more and more...especially some of the veterans who really need the help. I just think this is wonderful opportunity and way to reach out the veteran community.”
Home Base Iowa says the VA currently does not cover dental benefits unless a veteran is 100 percent disabled.
