Local retailer supports access to dental care for children

Thanks to a request from a local store manager, the Shopko Foundation has awarded Just Kids Dental $500 for the fourth year in a row.

Gwyn Bell is manager of the Shopko in Two Harbors who requested the funds from the foundation.
"I was not exactly sure of what Just Kids Dental did, but after meeting with them, I was very impressed," Bell said. "I had no idea they offer kids such a complete array of dental services."
Locally founded nonprofit Just Kids Dental provides oral health screenings and cleanings, including fluoride and sealants, free-of-charge to underserved children at clinics it conducts in local schools. JKD also conducts oral health education programs free-of-charge throughout the communities it serves.
Once Bell connected with Just Kids Dental and learned about its mission, she helped the nonprofit reach out to the Shopko Foundation.
"I was fortunate and had dental care as a child, but I know others who did not, and they still struggle to this day," Bell said. "We want to support all kids in our community having access to this care."
The grant will help fund Just Kids Dental's school programs in Two Harbors and Silver Bay at Minnehaha Elementary School and William Kelley Schools, as well as its oral health programs at Two Harbors ECFE, Silver Bay ECFE, Two Harbors Community Education Preschool, Silver Bay Community Education Preschool, Kickstart Preschool, Silver Creek Early Learning Center and Kids & Company.
