GLAXOSMITHKLINE Consumer Healthcare Sdn Bhd (GSK) has launched its Nation of Healthy Smiles campaign to help Malaysians smile confidently.
The campaign, in collaboration with Malaysian Dental Association (MDA) with support by the Health Ministry, aims to raise awareness on the importance of oral care for better overall well-being.
Speaking during the campaign launch in Petaling Jaya, GSK general manager Stacy Wallace elaborated on public attitude towards oral care.
“Malaysians don’t like going to the dentist. In an Ipsos market study, it is found that 24% of them have never been to dentists and 45% only do so when there is a problem.
“Unfortunately when there is a problem, it is usually quite serious. We would like to do something about that through this campaign,” she said.
The Nation of Healthy Smiles aims to provide 7,500 free dental screenings to the public, with 150 participating clinics across the country, from now till the end of the year.
The public only need to upload a photo of themselves smiling to Smileograph, the campaign digital platform at www.nationofhealthysmiles.com.my, and select the nearest clinic to them.
The collection of the photos is up till Nov 30 while the redemption for dental screening is open up till December. Users can also opt to register their friends and families for the check-up.
The campaign will include 10 roadshows at selected hypermarkets and supermarkets across the country to get the public on board for the cause.
Also present at the campaign launch were MDA president Dr Chow Kai Foo and Health Ministry Oral Health Regulation and Practice Division director Dr N. Jegarajan.
Stressing the importance of oral health care, Dr Chow noted that the campaign was crucial to encourage the public to develop a good oral care routine.
“The campaign provides education, awareness and the tools needed to prevent prevalent oral conditions in Malaysia, starting from the basic regimen to specialised ones.
“It is important for young Malaysians to take care of their teeth and gums. When you treat your oral conditions, you will also prevent your body from developing other complications such as cardiovascular diseases,” he said.
