Dental Associates to open new clinic in Waukesha

Dental Associates has begun work on a new clinic in Waukesha projected to cost about $8 million and eventually employ about 70 people.

The clinic will be the company's first in Waukesha and its 14th in the state.

Dental Associates, which has five clinics in the Milwaukee area, also recently announced plans to open a clinic in Howard near Green Bay.

The Waukesha clinic, near the corner of Highway 164 and East Main Street on Dolphin Court, initially will employ about 30 people, including two dentists, said Anthony Vastardis, Dental Associates CEO. Specialists in orthodontics, pediatric dentistry and oral surgery will practice part-time at the clinic.

The 21,500-square-foot clinic is scheduled to open in late spring next year.

Employers that offer dental insurance through CarePlus Dental Plans — a nonprofit company affiliated with Dental Associates — have employees in the Waukesha area, Vastardis said.

Dental Associates is the only provider in CarePlus Dental's network, and the company has said that the affiliation helps it determine where to open clinics.

Its clinic at 6855 S. 27th St. in Franklin opened several years ago at an estimated cost of $9.5 million, Vastardis said.

"We see pent up demand for our model," he said.

Dental Associates, founded in 1973, is Wisconsin's largest family-owned dental group. The company, which has its headquarters in the historic Iron Block Building in downtown Milwaukee, employs about 800 people, including about 100 dentists.
