Dentistry from the Heart helps metro residents in need of free dental care

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – This year is the sixth year for Dentistry from the Heart at Foster Dental Care in Blue Springs.

The line formed around midnight, hours before the doors opened, which is a testament to the thousands in Kansas City who are in need of free dental care.

Dozens of dental specialists volunteered to help people, who are typically uninsured, get a free cleaning, extraction or filling.

“We started with 10 to 15 volunteers.  Now there are 50.  We got a lot of dentists, hygienists, assistants and dental students,” said Dr. Alan Foster of Foster Dental Care.

The folks having the work done were beyond grateful.

“Getting a tooth extracted. It’s broken off and I need to get it removed,” said a patient named Tom.

“My sister suggested it.  I need to see a dentist.  I need a cleaning or filling, one of the two,” said
Debbie, a patient.

In six years, Foster Dental Care has helped more than 600 patients.
