Local Dentist Brings Innovative Dental Laser Technology to the Twin Cities

Jason McDowell, DDS of Wayzata Dental, is the first dentist in the Twin Cities to utilize the newest dental technology, Solea. Solea is the first FDA-approved dental laser used as an alternative to the drill and Novocaine typically administered in dental procedures. Solea improves the dental experience for all patients, young and old, and furthers the practice of gentle dentistry at Wayzata Dental.
“Many people are apprehensive and nervous about going to the dentist," says Dr. McDowell, who owns and operates his practice out of Wayzata. "The Solea technology removes the need for the dental drill and needle, making for a faster and more comfortable experience for the patient. The laser also allows for added precision and makes the tooth more resistant to future issues. This technology is changing the face of dentistry for the better."
The laser’s unique wavelength provides a natural anesthetic for the patient, so there is typically no need to use Novocaine. Without Novocaine, the length of time for general procedures is shortened significantly because there is no need to wait for an area to become numb. Additionally, when you eliminate Novocaine there is no risk of the patient biting themselves or damaging the dental work. Without this risk, the dentist is not restricted to working within one quadrant of the mouth, so dental work in all areas of the mouth can be completed during one appointment. This natural anesthetic affect also allows the dentist to perform the procedure with more precision and speed.
The use of dental drills can have side effects. The most common problems associated with traditional dental drills are exacerbating existing cracks in teeth, irritating nerve cells in the mouth, and increased sensitivity. These issues are all avoided with the Solea laser Dr. McDowell uses.
Dr. McDowell has used Solea in over fifty procedures in the past three months on patients of all ages and the response from patients has been very positive. Today, ninety-five percent of dental procedures done at Wayzata Dental, are completed without the use of Novocaine. This laser technology is changing the dental industry, making dentistry more comfortable, safe, and convenient for all patients.
