Mobile Clinic to Provide Free Dental Care in Abilene

Local residents who can't afford to visit a medical professional will soon have a chance to receive the dental treatment they need free of charge.
The Texas Mission of Mercy mobile dental clinic will be in town on Friday at the Abilene Civic Center beginning at 7:00 a.m. Patients wishing to take advantage of their pain-relieving dental services at no cost must arrive by 6:00 a.m. - one hour before the clinic begins.
Once capacity is reached, the clinic will stop taking patients, and all patients must bring any current medications.
"More than 40 volunteer dentists and 500 volunteers from the dental profession, businesses, and community groups will provide charitable care to hundreds of adults and children. The services, which are free of cost, include basic, pain-relieving and preventive procedures such as dental cleanings, fillings, and extractions," according to a press release from the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation which sponsors this event.
Over 851 area residents were aided during 2013's event, meaning this foundation provided $601,136 in charitable dental care to our citizens.
